Firstly, do a quick Google search for freelancers near me. If you are looking for particular service such as a WordPress website, make sure to include that in your search. Once you find a few sites, have a browse through the persons’ recent projects and look at testimonials or reviews from previous clients.
If they offer case studies or portfolios, check those out as they can often provide proof of how successful the project was. Search for the person on social media, Twitter and Facebook can give a good idea of what the person might be like (personality, etc.). LinkedIn is a great resource for verifying that person’s qualifications and previous experience.
The truth is that the professional web design industry has experienced tremendous growth over the last decade, and the barriers to entry are still quite low. No qualifications are required to be a web designer and there’s no official group to assure you that the person you’ve entrusted with your website is good at their job.
